Herbs America: Non-Profit & Outreach

ITAAM INSTITUTE OF TRADITIONAL AMAZON & ANDEAN MEDICINE (ITAAM)

We have founded a non-profit organization called ITAAM for the protection of indigenous lands and intellectual property rights of traditional healers.

Visit the website to learn more, and while there, ask for a copy of our JOURNAL OF THERAPEUTICAL AMAZON MEDICINE (JTAM), which includes a comprehensive database of peer reviewed studies and laboratory tests for hundreds of rare Amazonian fruits, herbs, and food crops.

Bio-active food crops from the jungles...SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Over the course of nearly 20 years, Herbs America's founders have been developing tribal medicinals, herb crops, and super foods for introduction into the natural foods market.
Exploring...
Working in more than thirty countries around the world, HERBS AMERICA has used USDA agriculture and agro forestry permits to introduce over 400 live-food crops (new plants, seeds and important economic tree species) to North America.

We avidly support SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE. Many of our plants can be found on Uluwehi Farm on Hawaii's big island.

The goal is to bring equitability to small farming operations in developing countries and support indigenous populations in their efforts of preserving culture while at the same time supporting agrarian economies.

BOTANICAL & CULTURAL PRESERVATION

Over the years, we have come to understand that good nutrition is often the defining factor between healthy, happy cultures and overstressed or impoverished communities.

We have discovered that much of the devastation to the earth forest is a result of non-sustainable farming operations. We hope to alleviate this by practicing permaculture and a sustainable harvest wherever we work.

We believe that a nutrient-rich food supply can contribute to emotional and spiritual aspects such as tranquility, contemplation and compassion for others. Chemical imbalances in the body govern the attitudes and mood. Good health, endurance and cheer are bounties immeasurable by monetary means, and can contribute to peace on the planet.

One of the most inhuman things a company can do to a small farmer is to pressure them to use chemicals or short sighted farming practices. We never pressure our growers to utilize chemicals to increase yield. In fact, we promote organic agriculture and collaborate with traditional farmers who specialize in organic methods.
